How can we deal with the scarce resources of our planet in such a way that they are preserved for future generations? Difficulties in implementing a project idea? Or an everyday space problem, such as a kitchen that is too small?
The public design consultancy in Wolfsburg offers free support for all those who are looking for creative solutions. In the weekly consultation hours, design issues are discussed and ideas are worked on together. In the participatory process, new designs for all types of space and location are created; from the apartment to the small shop to the school, from the furniture to the garden. Everyone can take part in the consultation.
The project is carried out by young designers, engineers and economists.
The idea of public design advice is not new: in Hamburg, students at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts have been offering free design support to all interested citizens since 2011. Here you can find the website of the ÖGB Hamburg and many projects that have already been implemented.
The ÖGB Wolfsburg takes the view that design should deal with the pressing issues of the present - and preferably together with those affected. It is an inclusive and democratic project, as the free offer gives everyone access to urban design. The hope is that people will identify more strongly with the city through creative “bottom-up” approaches, i.e. based on citizens, initiatives or associations.
